Altrusa Clubs sponsor ASTRA clubs
for youth aged between 13 and 25
to achieve their goals as individuals and community members.
ASTRA members benefit from opportunities for mentoring and leadership through local service projects.
ASTRA stands for ability,
service, training,
responsibility and achievement.
ASTRA club fundraising ideas include:
- School Disco
- Sausage Sizzles
- Cake Stalls
ASTRA clubs support other organisations in the community
- St Johns Ambulance
- Habitat for Humanity
- Ronald McDonald House
- Canteen (Teenage Cancer Charitable Organisation)

ASTRA CLUB of Auckland : "CARE PACKS" for Parents
The Astra Club of Auckland has been very busy. ASTRA members contacted various companies and managed to get products donated for their 'care packs'.
They put together 100 toiletry /
goodie bags for
the parents of ill children who have been taken to Starship in a hurry.
These 'Care Packs' are handed out to the parents on arrival by the
Vounteer Bridgade at the hospital to help them for the first night or
two until they have a chance to get to either their homes, or a
supermarket to pick up the personal items they may need.Each "Care
Pack" has a hand written note saying that these were donated by the
Astra Club of Auckland
2010 End of Year Report
Congratulations ASTRA Oamaru
The ASTRA club of Oamaru, based
at Waitaki Girls High School,
were runners-up in the
Educational and Child Youth
Development Section of
the Trust Power
"Powering Volunteers" awards.
44 groups applied over 7 different categories and the ASTRA girls were the only youth group to win any - absolutely fantastic. They received a framed certificate and a cheque for $250. The club are donating their prize money to St Johns Ambulance.
