Altrusa Tauranga is a branch of an international organisation of community minded women who volunteer their energies and expertise for the betterment of their community - and have a lot of fun along the way.
Community Projects:
In the past year these have included:
  • Holding a charity luncheon with proceeds going to 'Bay of Plenty Heart Children'.
  • Providing support staff at the hospital chemotherapy lounge.
  • Promoting literacy skills in colleges by providing prizes.
  • Celebrating international 'Altrusa Make A Difference Day' by picking up rubbish on local streets and in local parks
  • Holding a film evening with proceeds going to the Alzheimer Society.
  • Running a raffle with proceeds going to 'Riding for the Disabled'.
  • Supporting other community organisations- e.g.: helping with preparations for 'Daffodil Day, providing Easter eggs and home baked Christmas cakes for Meals on Wheels, and Foodbank recipients, providing magazines for hospital patients.
  • Participating in a New Zealand wide Altrusa project which has helped furnish and equip a school hostel for special needs children in the village of Gilgil, in Kenya.

Donating the proceeds of our raffle to 'Riding For the Disabled'.
Not only did we collect money, but a horse's feedbag was also donated.

Social Activities:
  • We have a dinner meeting twice a month - these include business meetings as well as social activities and interesting speakers.
  • Group outings
  • Altrusa New Zealand holds a yearly conference - this is a great opportunity to mix with Altrusans from around the country, as well as listen to great speakers, and participate in interesting activities (e.g. this year's conference included a visit to a Buddhist temple and a mass tai-chi class)
  • We welcome new members, and if you would like to come to a meeting (no obligation), please contact our president on the link above.
