The Altrusa International of Timaru had its inaugural dinner in April 1971 and was chartered on 11 March 1972.

Our theme for 2009 - 2010 is "Looking beyond and making a difference"

We have twenty seven members who meet twice a month in the Women's Community Centre in central Timaru.

This has been a very productive year for our club. Presentations have been made to Diabetes SC for display material; to Plunket S.C. for marquees; to Early Childhood Education facilities, reference books on child raising by Ian Grant and to Hospice SC for their new facility. We have also donated sixty 'fun bags' to the A and E Dept of Timaru Hospital to be given to children spending endless hours there waiting for treatment - this was our Literacy Day Project.

Fund raisers have included Fashion Parades, a make up evening, and stalls. Coming up are the Rose Festival, Antiques Fair and our Christmas get together. The international focus for November will be hosting a panel of 'new' New Zealanders, asking questions about their integration into our communities in South Canterbury.
