What is Altrusa?

Altrusa is an international association of people who volunteer their services in community projects.

District Fifteen includes the North and South Islands of New Zealand and has 26 clubs.

Can I become a member?

Membership in Altrusa is by way of invitation.  When you contact your local club you will be invited to attend meetings as a guest.  This will give you time to get to know how the local club functions.  Usually after a few meetings you will be invited to join.

When was Altrusa started?

Altrusa was started in 1917 in Nashville Tennessee.  It was founded by Mamie L. Bass.  Over the years Altrusa has become a builder of women with women helping women in communities throughout the world through a variety of service projects.

What is ASTRA?

We also have youth activities (ages 16 - 25) through ASTRA Clubs.  If you are between the ages of 16 and 25 you may be interested in our youth section ASTRA.  ASTRA Clubs are in Auckland, Invercargill and Oamaru and are supported by the Altrusa Clubs in those areas.
